project 2

This is the project that took over 5 cpus, 3 different audio devices, 2 technical support gurus, and one major headache. It wasn't really hard but I had some unbelivable bad luck with my hardware.

Course feedback

Good Things about the course:
- I was exposed to many technologies I didn't know
- I enjoyed the projects and their flexibillity.

Things that I would have liked improved:
-I really didn't like having two webpages for class information. The different information on both was sometimes confusing for me. I eventually put a link between the two on the pages of the google group page and that helped.
-The ranking of the "weeks assignments" on google sites page was strange I missed some of the weeks because I didn't see them.
-I was a challenge to me to remeber to do this class. If it was posted two weeks in advance or maybe the whole semester I could have done large chunks all at once.

Summary:
The course was quite good and I appreciated the flexibility of the online section. I liked it and would recomend it but I would link the two webpages in the begining and try to post larger segments of assignments.

Final project second try

Here is my second attempt to make these links work.

Cells Project assignment sheet -

I cannot find a document storage company that supports sketch up so here is the web site where you can look at it.

Final Project

This was a fun project that I will use with my kids. I had fun doing it and got to learn how to use google sketch up. It wsa harder than I thought to get it all to work but was gratifying and a good way to help students comprehend their plant cell anatomy. Here is the assignment I would give:

Here is a sample for the assignment that I would expect being turned in.

Cells Project:

Using Google Sketchup, make a plant and an animal cell. These cells may be creative but must have all the appropriate organelles and the identifying characteristics. You can do this in a representational way, like a house with furniture (couch equals mitochondria and so forth) or using 3d text or any other way that you can think of. Google Sketchup is on school computers and also can be downloaded for free at http://www.google.com/.
Your project should include:

· 1 plant cell
· 1 animal cell
· Labels for each cell’s organelle
· A key to explain what object represents which organelle (only if you choose to have representational objects).

Grading:
· Has a plant and an animal cell (5 points)
· Plant cell labeled correctly (10 points)
· Animal cell labeled correctly (10 points)

Project 3

I would really love to learn how to use google sketchup. I think it would be fun and cool to have students make a plant or an animal cell with the organelles. It would be fun to do and help them to remember them because they made it. I thought about a video game but don't think I know enough to do it.

Skype-tastic

I just skyped. It was weird but effective. I could see this being hugely beneficial to allow families to stay in touch over broad distances. It is sweet. I hope to use it again. I confess I do not like doing it with the video. It just seems a bit weird but I think that has to do with the fact that it is hard look at a persons face but not really thier eyes. I always look at peoples eyes but to take in their whole face and not get to see their eys is somehow strage for me.

Week 7 blog post

My video is on plant gross and plant cell anatomy. Very fun. I really like making videos. It allows me to use my creative side. I hope my video turns out reminiscent of Bill Nye

I finished my web page

I finally finished my biology web page. I made it once but then read the directions and found out I didn't do it right so remade the whole web site. Shame on me for not checking the instructions.

New technology

I really like the side wiki feature and the ways to use google pages to collaborate with groups. I set one up for my cpse group project to ease the burden of schedualing.

The flu and me...

Yep you guessed it I have the flu (possible H1N1) so i have been confined to home since tuesday. This is particularly a bummer because I cannot get to campus and use a web cam. It is frustrating to be sick and stuck at home not able to work (wow we need the $). Oh Well. I guess I will post the videos for the class when I get better.

Awkward is using a web cam

So not owning a web cam I am using the mac labs on campus with others all silently wondering why do I have to hear about this kids likes and dislikes! understandable but silly all the same. I guess that is the beauty of taking a class where you get to learn about technology.

Strange...

I never thought I would ever blog. I guess life is full of unexpected changes. Autumn is huge and loves to roll over, drool, and talk. It is so much fun to be a dad.
